Since I have moved all my images to a separate gallery I thought that I would expand the contents of the weblog to include some of the artwork that influences me. Lately I've been looking at some work by Cy Twombly. I like his work but it challenging.

I made this piece in the early Fall. Don't let the title push you into a certain mindset. This is an abstract piece and the interpretation is flexible. I consider the title as a place to begin appreciation. I'll share what I think, but perhaps you would care to take a moment to make your own interpretation before reading mine:

When I made this piece I was thinking about cities, and I wanted to create an image where the buildings seemed like people. I didn't want to clearly depict a city, but rather the sense of commotion and vertigo. I didn't want the buildings to look exactly like people but I wanted them to have a human-like posture, like a group of statesman questioning somebody (or should I say an auto executive?) Above all, I wanted the image to be simple.

If you have the time, on this cold snowy day, I'd like to read what you think when you see this.

This piece was made this fall. It currently exists in a sketchbook, hence the shadowy appearance of the photograph. This image makes a good desktop background, I recommend setting it as "centered" and using a very light gray color for the surroundings.

I made this about a month ago after watching Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I'm thinking of taking this image and making an oil painting, possibly adding some color.

This is an oil pastel drawing from late this summer. Its a larger piece, three by two feet. The material is from a large spool of packaging paper that I saved from work.

I'm not sure if this is true for other artists, but I'm often more motivated by the prospect of making something than I am about the image itself. Nothing makes me want to draw like a stack of blank paper.

One day I would like to make a very large drawing, maybe twelve by twelve feet, something larger than me that I could stand next to. If anyone comes across a huge piece of cardboard or wood that they don't want, like something that's over eight feet on one side, let me know, I'd like to see what happens.

This watercolor is one of my favorite pieces. Its nearly five years old, I haven't tried a lot of water color since. It started off as a very faint sketch and painted over it. You can still see the pencil marks on the sail. Normally, I would make several sketches of something before painting, but for this piece, the final product fits well right on top of the draft.

Hello, Welcome to my art weblog. The aim of this site is to regularly present artwork in small bites so its easy to digest. I plan to submit a new image of my work on each Monday and Friday, I hope you enjoy this small virtual gallery.

This image was made using mspaint, the original is a bitmap image, so I take responsibility for each pixel. Its currently untitled, but I think it looks a bit like a printed circuit board. I love the appearance of printed electronics. To me they look like small cities. The movie Koyaanisqatsi has a beautiful interpretation of this analogy.

Feel free to download a copy for yourself. Try setting it to your desktop background if you have a widescreen monitor. (Right click on image to set, select stretch setting.)

I designed the image to be viewed in an enlarged format. Due to Blogger's image upload algorithms, the enlarged image will have some variable discoloration, but that will have to do till I figure out a way around it. In the meantime if you would like an original to look at or play around with, send me an email and I'll send it to you.
